Dental X-Rays: The Differences Between Each Machine

Posted .

Dental X-Rays are great images that can help you prevent as well as identify dental issues. This is extremely beneficial because it can help you maintain a strong and healthy smile as well as treat problems at the early stages of development. This technology makes it possible to identify any issue in the mouth, even if it’s impossible to be seen with the naked eye.

There are many different types of X-Rays in the world today, and our Brent A. Spear, DDS team is more than happy to tell you all about them! The four different types of X-Rays include:

Periapical: A periapical X-Ray takes a picture of an entire tooth. It shows your dentist the crown of the tooth as well as the roots and bones that support it.

Bite-Wing: A bite-wing X-Ray is helpful when your dentist needs a visual of your back teeth. The image shows how your premolars and molars touch one another and it also shows any tooth decay between the back teeth.

Panoramic: A panoramic X-Ray is beneficial because it shows the entire face. It shows the teeth, jaws, nasal area, sinuses, and jaw joints. This X-Ray is the most beneficial when a patient needs orthodontic or dental implant treatment.

Occlusal: An occlusal X-Ray shows the bite of the upper and lower jaw. It can also show the development of a child’s primary or permanent teeth.
